On October, 28,1980, Tianjin and Yokkaichi became sister cities. 

Yokkaichi is a city located in the north of Mie, Japan. It faces the Ise Bay. As of 2007, the city has an estimated population of 313,403 within the total area is 205.53 km². 

Yokkaichi port was developed and a regular market was open on 4, 14 and 24 in each month in Azuchi-Momoyama period,  Thus, the city is named Yokkaichi because "yokkaichi" means "market on fourth day". It is the center city of the southwest of Mie and the Chūkyō Metropolitan Area. In 2000 it became one of designated cities.

Yokkaichi is the petrochemical cartel base of Japan. It is on a high position. Besides the petrochemical industry, food processing industry and ceramic processing industry in Yokkaichi are well-developed. There are other industries as well: precision instrument, transportation equipment, garment, furniture, iron and steel, paper making and paper pulp. Yokkaichi has made a difference on improving air quality and urban environment. The external trade is also palying an very important role in the economy of Yokkaichi. It mainly import the raw materials of textile industry, petroleum, wood, etc. Atoumobiles, petrochemicals, synthetic rubbers and chemical fertilizer are export. In recent years, Yokkaichi readjusts the industrial structure gradually, draws high and new technology industries focused around Semiconductor Manufacture. 

The agriculture of Yokkaichi has the suburban style. There are 5,081 hectares cultivated lands which is 26 percent of the city’s total land area. And the number of people engaging in agricultural production making up 14 percent of the city's total population. The mainly agricultural product is rice. 

Yokkaichi has a convenient transportation. Waterways and railways radiate in all directions. Yokkaichi Port is located in the center of Japanese Archipelago. It is the hub of sea and land transportation that links the economy of the central part of Japan with the economy of Kinki. There are huge public facilities, special docks for containers, loading stages, crudehandling systems, etc. It can berth fifty vessels of various kinds at the same time. The port's annual handling capacity is about 50 million tons. 

Yokkaichi is served by both JR and Kintetsu rail lines.The Higashi Meihan Highway, which leads to Nagoya, was built along the foot of Suzuka Mountains.Port of Yokkaichi is the secondary port in Ise Bay.
