Saarland is located in the southwest of Germany. It is one of the 16 federal states of Germany. The capital is Saarbr¨¹cken. It has an area of 2,568.65 km² and 1,039,000(2007-09-30£© inhabitants. Its location between French and German powers has given Saarland a unique history. Saarland has the highest concentration of Roman Catholics of any German state, and is one of two states in which Catholics form a majority.
Important income sources of Saarland are automobile industry, steel industry, coal mining, ceramic industry and computer science and information systems industry. There is a large reserve of coal in Saarland. From 19 century, the state's steel industry was developed by the coking of bituminous coal and the affinage technique of the phosphorous iron ore.
