On September, 28, 1994,Tianjin and Saarland became sister cities.
Saarland is located in the southwest of Germany. It is one of the 16 federal states of Germany. The capital is Saarbr¨¹cken. It has an area of 2,568.65 km² and 1,039,000(2007-09-30£© inhabitants. Its location between French and German powers has given Saarland a unique history. Saarland has the highest concentration of Roman Catholics of any German state, and is one of two states in which Catholics form a majority.
Important income sources of Saarland are automobile industry, steel industry, coal mining, ceramic industry and computer science and information systems industry. There is a large reserve of coal in Saarland. From 19 century, the state's steel industry was developed by the coking of bituminous coal and the affinage technique of the phosphorous iron ore. The world most developed steel factories are here. In 2005 had Saarland the highest economic growth in GDP among German states.
Saarland is the hub of Europe. It connects the main drags between east and west Europe. It has very developed railways, roads and waterway, as well as the air traffic.
