On August, 11, 2002,Tianjin and Nampho became sister cities.

Nampho is a city and seaport in the west coast of North Korea situated some 50 kilometers south west of Pyongyang, at the mouth of the Taedong River. It is one of three special cities and the second largest city in this country. Its population is 455,000（2004）. 

With the rapid increase in state investment, the city's industries grew and it now has powerful heavy industries and modern light industries. The famous enterprises in Nampho include Nampho Smelter Complex, the Nampho Glass Corporation, the Nampho Shipbuilding Complex, the Nampho Fishery Complex and other central and local factories. Nampho is a center for the DPRK shipbuilding industry. North part of this city are facilities for freight transportation, aquatic products, fishery, and a sea salt factory. The apples grown in Nampho's Ryonggang district are  famous local product.

A railway and a large freeway connect Nampho to Pyongyang and other locations. The West Sea Barrage of the Nampho port, built by erecting an 8km long sea wall, has three lock chambers which allow the passage of ships up to 50,000 tons and 36 sluices. The port of Nampho has modern harbor facilities that can accommodate ships of 20,000 tons but is frozen during the winter. Nampho serves as Pyongyang's port on the Yellow Sea.

Tourist attractions include Waudo Pleasure Ground, with a sea bathing beach, a convalescent hospital and recreation facilities. The scenic spots nearby is the West Sea Barrage.
